AgentXchain v2.38.0
2.38.0 ships the full continuity package: richer governance checkpoints, correct restart behavior around pending gates, checkpoint-drift detection, and truthful operator-action guidance across CLI, dashboard, and API surfaces.
Continuity checkpointing contract
AgentXchain now writes structured governance checkpoints at six boundary points during a run:
- Turn assignment — when a role is dispatched
- Turn acceptance — when a role produces accepted output
- Phase approval — when a phase gate is approved
- Run completion — when a run reaches terminal state
- Blocked state — when a run enters a blocked state
- Restart reconnect — when
restartreattaches to a checkpoint
Each checkpoint captures run_id, phase, turn, role, baseline_ref (git HEAD, branch, dirty status), and a monotonic checkpoint_epoch. This enables cross-process session recovery with full governance-state context.
Restart preserves pending gates
agentxchain restart no longer bypasses pending phase transitions or pending run completions. When a run has a pending gate, restart surfaces the exact approval command the operator needs instead of reactivating the run and silently skipping the gate.
This was a correctness bug: the prior implementation called reactivateRun() before checking pending_phase_transition, which could resume execution past an unapproved gate.
Checkpoint-drift detection
Continuity surfaces now compare the checkpoint's baseline_ref against the live workspace state. When the checkpoint belongs to the current run and the workspace has diverged (different HEAD, different branch, or dirty working tree), drift warnings are surfaced in:
agentxchain status(CLI)agentxchain status --json/api/continuity(dashboard bridge)- Dashboard Timeline continuity panel
Stale checkpoints (from a different run) intentionally skip drift evaluation — drift from another run's baseline is not actionable guidance.
Truthful continuity action guidance
The continuity helper now computes exact operator-action recommendations instead of a boolean restart hint:
recommended_command— the exact CLI command the operator should run nextrecommended_reason— why this command is the right next steprecommended_detail— additional context (e.g., which phase gate is pending)restart_recommended— nowtrueonly when the recommended command is literallyagentxchain restart, not when an approval command would be correct
This fixes a surface-level lie where restart_recommended: true was emitted for runs that needed approve --phase or approve --complete, misleading both operators and automation consumers.
